Michigan experienced an unusually brutal winter this past season. However, the effects of the harsh weather resulted in curious photo opportunities. On a drive back from Chicago, I stopped at the St. Joseph, Michigan pier on Lake Michigan and photographed these layers of snow and sand mixing on the beach. The snow was a superficial layer on top of the sand. As the wind etched away at the snow, exposing the sand beneath, it made the interesting undulations in the layers. Photo taken on January 20, 2014.
