Shown above is a badlands area on the island of Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. By car, this arid area is about a 15-20 minute drive from the city of Nicosia. Though flanked by the River Alikos, previous mining and quarrying, land use practices and wind not running water are largely responsible for the erosion seen here. Photo taken on April 13, 2013.
