The Mont Blanc Massif, in the Western Alps holds the highest mountain peak in west Europe. Located along the Italian-French border, Mont Blanc peak is a spectacular 15,780 ft (4,810 m). The photo above shows five summits from the north side of the Massif. From the left to the right are Aiguille du Midi, Mont Blanc du Tacul, Mont Maudit, Mount Blanc and Dome du Gouter. Along the northern slope of Mont Blanc, the glacier des Bossons (to the left) and the glacier de Tacconaz (to the right) can be seen -- both have been noticeably retreating in recent decades.
