The photos above show the eye-catching morning glory phenomenon as observed near Cape Saint Vincent, Portugal. This unusual tubular cloud or roll cloud is often seen during the morning but can also be viewed at other times of the day. It seems to be associated with coastal mesoscale disturbances, particularly vigorous sea breezes. Take heed when morning glories reach shore since strong winds may attend their passage.
