Qomolangma or Mount Everest, the highest point on our planet, is the focal point of the Himalayan Range. It lies in eastern Nepal, close to the border of Nepal and Tibet, China. I visited this region shortly before the deadly earthquake on April 25, 2015. I was here not to climb Qomolangma but rather because when I was a young boy I saw a video of Mount Everest that beckoned me to the roof of the world. Mount Everest is composed primarily of sedimentary rock formed by the skeletons of marine creatures that lived tens of millions of years ago. Its pyramidal shape partially results from being sculpted by massive glaciers. Photo taken on April 13, 2015.
