This image of Comet Catalina (C/2013 US10) and the conjunction of the Moon and Venus was taken from Guatemala City, Guatemala, just before dawn on December 7, 2015. The camera is facing east. Comet Catalina is shown having a bluish/green hue -- this coloring is due to the presence of carbon molecules. It currently has a magnitude of about 6.5 and can be observed with the naked eye only from very dark locations. Note that the larger box shows a magnification of Catalina -- the smaller box shows its size, position and brightness compared to the Moon, Venus and background stars.
