Summary Authors: Christian Ahlers; Jim Foster
These spirited northern lights were observed from northern Germany on the night of March 6, 2016. Initially, just a fringe of green was visible above the horizon, but suddenly green arches and bright red streamers and curtains appeared. Early spring is one of the best times for viewing auroras since geomagnetic activity tends to be high near the equinoxes. Note that the yellowish cloud beneath the aurora and just above the line of trees at lower center is from the lights of the small towns of Wiefelstede and Rastede.
