Lenticular Cloud Over Pacaya Volcano
June 30, 2017

Summary Authors: Jaime Orlando Chanquín Paz; Jim Foster
The photo above shows a lenticular cloud positioned over the active volcanic cone of Pacaya volcano in Guatemala. It was taken at Finca Los Pocitos around 10:30 on the night of April 29, 2017. A minor eruption of Pacaya was occurring at the time I took the photo. Because I accidentally left a small flashlight on during the shot (a nearly minute-long exposure), the landscape in the foreground at lower left appears purple-red. This inadvertent illumination also shows solidified lava resulting from an eruption in 2014.
