The photos above showing beautiful springtime aurora were captured above Saint-Philémon, Quebec (top) and Cape Cod Bay, Massachusetts (bottom). Both were snapped on the night of May 27, 2017, following a strong (G3) geomagnetic storm. Note that during late spring through late summer the sky is never really dark enough, even in the middle of the night, to appreciate auroras poleward of about 50 degrees latitude.
Photo Details: Saint-Philémon photo - IDX camera; 24 mm (70) lens. Cape Cod photo - captured at 11:15 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) using a Canon 6D camera; Canon EF 24-70 mm; f/2.8L; ISO 4000; and a 30-second exposure.
