The photo above shows an offset fault in a canyon wall of limestone and breccia in Death Valley National Park. I came upon it while hiking with my wife in Fall Canyon, which is the next major canyon north of Titus Canyon. The block of rock on the right is shifted upwards relative to the block on the left. Note the bright band of strata at center -- the band on the right is approximately 6 ft (2 m) higher than the band on the left. Photo taken on November 26, 2011.

Photo Details: Camera: Canon EOS 40D; Lens: EF16-35mm f/2.8L USM; Focal Length: 22mm; Aperture: f/8.0; Exposure Time: 0.050 s (1/20); ISO equiv: 100; Software: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Windows.
