Devil's Peak Full Moon Rise (4)

Each Sunday we present a notable item from our archives. This EPOD was originally published June 13, 2012.

The panorama above shows magnificent Table Mountain and sparkling Cape Town, South Africa. Table Mountain was recently voted one of the new seven wonders of nature. It stands more than 3,500 ft (1,067 m) above sea level and is composed chiefly of quartzitic sandstone. On this view, a panorama of 15 images stitched together, the Mountain is bathed in the light of the rising full Moon. The Sun had just set about 15 minutes earlier, leaving the sky a beautiful, deep blue color. I hiked up Lion's Head a few hours before sunset to specifically set up for this shot -- waiting for the Moon to rise from behind Devil's Peak. Photo taken on June 4, 2012.

Photo Details: Canon 5D MK II camera; 24mm-70mm 2.8 L Series Cannon Lens; ISO 500; 20 second exposure; F/16.0 aperture. Panorama stitched together in PT Gui Pro.
