The vista above shows the savanna habitat of the Mpumalanga region of South Africa, near the southwest c orner of Kruger National Park, was taken from a 200 ft (61 m) rocky promontory. This is prime land for both photographic and hunting safaris. Because rainfall has been ample this year, grasslands are thick and tall, in many cases the grass was above my head. Thus seeing anything more than the horns of a cape buffalo (inset at left) was very difficult. In the Swazi and Zulu languages, Mpumalanga means the place where the Sun rises.
