Shadows at Sunset Above Torun, Poland
August 03, 2018
These photos feature sunset and the onset of darkness as observed from Torun, Poland on May 11, 2018. The top photo shows shadows oddly covering about one-half of the sky. Darkness here results more from cloud shadows rather than from the encroaching Earth's shadow. The bottom photo, taken a few minutes earlier shows more clearly the source of the shadows -- building cumulus clouds on the horizon obscuring the Sun and casting huge crepuscular rays. Note the bright streaks where sunlight is streaming through gaps in the clouds. Photos taken at: 8:31 p.m. (top) and 8:27 p.m. (bottom).
