Featured above is South Lake in the Sierra Nevadas near Bishop, California. I snapped this photo during a great backpacking trip in early September. Because the lake water was calm and quite clear, it showed amazing specular reflections of the mountain in the background. The trails here wind through beautiful alpine lakes, eventually ascending towards Bishop Pass. Towards the top of the pass, which reaches 11,972 ft (3,649 m), looking back you get a great view of the Bishop Lakes. This area was formed by collisions of tectonic plates and sculpted by glaciers during the last ice age. Photo taken on September 1, 2018.
