Featured above is Castle Gleiberg and the waning crescent Moon as observed from the state of Hesse, Germany. I was approximately 1.4 mi (2.2 km) from the castle tower when I snapped this photo, just before dawn on September 8, 2018. Ground fog was beginning to form, best seen at bottom left, giving the scene a spooky touch. Sitting atop a 1,011 ft (308 m) basalt dome, Castle Gleiberg was constructed over 1,000 years ago.

Photo Details: Sony A7R2 camera; three photo panorama. HDR for foreground at ISO 800 and exposed between 1 and 15 seconds; Canon 100-400LII lens; 400 / 5.6 Moon exposed about 1 second with Skywatcher Star Adventurer at ISO 800 and f5.6.
