The photo above shows faulting of folded Paleocene limestone beds. It was taken in the eastern Sahara Desert, just west of the Nile River, near Aswan, Egypt. The limestone formation here is overlaid by mounds of much younger Quaternary travertine (darker rocks), a type of limestone typically deposited by mineral springs. Photo taken on May 14, 2015.
