The photo above shows Mount Hood, Oregon cloaked in a cap cloud as viewed from the campground at Mirror Lake. At 11,240 ft (3,426 m), this stratovolcano is the highest peak in Oregon and the fourth highest in the Cascade Mountain Range. It formed as a result of the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate subducting beneath the North American plate. Though it's considered active, Mount Hood erupted last in 1866 while the last major eruption occurred in the 1790s. Note that because the lake isn't as bright as the sky, there's somewhat more contrast here in the reflected image than the actual image. Photo taken on October 20, 2012.

Photo Details: Camera: Canon PowerShot A3100 IS; Focal Length: 6.2mm; Aperture: f/2.7; Exposure Time: 0.017 s (1/60); ISO equiv: 160.
