The eye-catching meteor shown above appears to be ready to smash into Mount Barglistock, Switzerland, however, it's actually tens of miles above the Earth's surface. This impressive panorama of the Bernese Alps was captured as I observed the Taurid meteor shower in the early morning hours of November 18, 2018. The three major peaks featured at far right, from right to left, are Jungfrau (the highest at 13,642 ft or 4,158 m), Mönch and Eiger. Even though the valley in the mid-ground was choked with clouds, the night sky was beautifully clear.
