Shown above is a photomicrograph image of bioclastic limestone that was found near Aswan, Egypt. It's from the Kurkur Formation and dates to the Lower Paleocene. Fragments of invertebrates and foraminiferal shells are immersed here in the sparite cement of this rock. Compare with the Earth Science Picture of the Day for December 18, 2018.
