Summary Authors: Bertrand Kulik; Jim Foster
This stormy sky over Paris, France was photographed during the afternoon of June 4, 2019. An arcus-type cloud (shelf cloud) is rapidly enveloping the City of Lights; strong winds and torrents of rain soon followed. Note the tinge of green in the sky at left center. Thick storm clouds having a high liquid content that form late in the day, when the Sun is low in the sky, sometimes result in a noticeable greenish color. Raindrops that are unusually large may also play a role in affecting sky coloration.
