As I was lying on my living room couch one afternoon a few weeks ago, I noticed this spectacular array of light and shadow on the ceiling and wall. The low-lying Sun was projecting the shadow of a potted plant in front of a window and the curtain over the window. I grabbed my iPhone and took a panorama of the scene.
This observation reminded me of the predecessor to the photographic camera -- the camera obscura, or the dark room. A small hole in one wall of a darkened room would project an inverted image of the scene outside onto another indoor wall, which is the idea behind the pinhole camera. Leonardo da Vinci described in detail the concept behind the pinhole camera in the 15th century. Photo taken on June 24, 2019.
