The photo above, captured by a drone, shows complex clapotic waves (overlapping waves) offshore of Lake Michigan, near South Haven, Michigan. These non-breaking standing waves result from a breakwater during a northwest gale; strong winds moving across Lake Michigan formed waves several ft (1 m) in height. Click here to see the video, which was taken to illustrate the dynamics of these waves. Photo taken on November 21, 2018.
