This photo was taken the day before I was to descend to the bottom of the Grand Canyon for the first time. The Grand Canyon extends along 277 mi (446 km) of the Colorado River, spans up to 18 mi (29 km) from rim to rim and is approximately 1 mi (1.6 km) deep. I've now hiked to the bottom and back twice, once from the South Rim (pictured above) and once from the North Rim. You don’t have to be a world-class climber or super-experienced hiker in order to enjoy exploring the Grand Canyon. However, if you choose to hike into the Canyon bring lots of water, plenty of sunscreen and a good pair of hiking boots. Photo taken on April 2, 2011.

Photo Details: Camera: Canon PowerShot SX120 IS; Focal Length: 14.4mm; Aperture: f/3.5; Exposure Time: 0.0016 s (1/640); ISO equiv: 80.
