This photo showing the snow-capped La Sal mountain range in southeastern Utah was snapped from Arches National Park. Rising above the Colorado Plateau, the La Sal range was originally created by an intrusion of igneous rocks approximately 25 million years ago. Mount Peale, at right, climbs to 12,721 feet (3,877 m). Vegetation in the foreground consists primarily of saltbush and greasewood shrubs. Photo taken in late September 2013.
