Taking advantage of a little open sky between two cloud formations, I took the photo above, from Syracuse, Italy, showing what looked like an eye in the sky. Since the waxing gibbous Moon was partially wrapped in gauzy mid-level clouds, it’s adorned by a corona. Diffraction of moonlight in small cloud droplets is responsible for the subtle coloration. Photo taken on October 9, 2019.
