The photo above was taken earlier this month during my walk through Kīlauea Iki Crater on the Big Island of Hawaii. This solidified lava lake, in the heart of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, is surrounded by a lush rain forest. As of this past September, the moderately difficult, Kīlauea Iki Trail (about 4 miles or 6.4 km long) has been opened in its entirety. Photo taken on December 7, 2019.
