The photo above shows the waxing gibbous Moon rising behind Montanel (Dolomite Alps) as observed from Calalzo di Cadore, Italy, on the evening of December 8, 2019. Lingering rays of sunlight sky, combined here with moonlight, suffuses the snowcapped peak (8,074 ft or 2,461 m) with warm colors. This pleasing effect is referred to as alpenglow but is called enrosadira in the Dolomites.
