Once again, the Etna volcano has been showing its emotions. During the night of December 6, 2019, intense strombolian activity was focused in the area of the New Southeast Crater (NSEC). As night gave way to dawn, fireworks from this crater painted the sky with intense yellow and orange hues; lava fountains contrasting with the snow-covered slopes in the foreground. By the following morning, lava that had been pooling in the summit craters was flowing toward where I was been positioned a few hours earlier. Note the small meteor just above the active crater.
