Shown above is the rose-colored Belt of Venus as observed over a foggy carpet from the control tower at Viterbo Airport, Italy, on the morning of January 26, 2020. The camera is facing west. Just before sunrise (and just after sunset), this reddened strip of sky can be viewed opposite of where the Sun comes up (or goes down), on just about any fair-weather day. The darkened region of the sky that the Belt of Venus attends is the setting Earth’s shadow.
