Although some remnant ice appears in this photo, taken on the last day of winter, March, 18th (2020), the state park docks are open and ice-out on Sebago Lake officially occurred on March 17th.

The U.S. Geological Survey scatter graphs, at bottom right, show the ice-out record for eight lakes including Sebago over the past 200 years. The regression line indicates that ice-out is occurring earlier than in the past. At bottom left is the ice out record for Damariscotta Lake, Maine. Even though the dates are widely scattered, there’s a noticeable trend toward ice melting earlier in recent decades.
