Trade Winds and Clouds on La Palma

Though the Canary Islands, off Africa’s northwest coast, are quite dry, the trade winds will on occasion bring moisture-laden air their way. Often, though, there’s just enough moisture to form clouds, as shown in the photo above, taken from Santa Cruz on the island of La Palma. For a few hours, these clouds may remain at the door of the island without entering. If rain does fall, it’s likely to do so only on the island’s mountainous areas. Photo taken on March 5, 2020.
