In times of being quarantined from Covid-19, the life of a photographer is often limited to recording what’s happened outside by looking through a window. On the day I snapped the photo above, observing from near the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, a cluster of distant cumulus clouds increased in size very quickly, seeming to merge into a single, huge cumulonimbus. As shown here, it’s approximately 55 miles (90 km) distant and highlighted by the afternoon Sun. Fortunately, its punch wasn’t as threatening as its appearance, at least for my location, as it was steered by atmospheric currents away from Belo Horizonte. Photo taken on March 3, 2020.
