Featured above is the beautiful conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the southwestern sky juxtaposed with the waxing crescent Moon, in the southeast. At the time the photos were snapped, the Moon was enshrouded by a corona. Prominent at bottom center is the charming town of Pieve di Cadore (elevation of 2,880 ft or 878 m) in the heart of the Dolomite range. It’s the birthplace of the famous painter, Tiziano Vecellio. Note that the Sfornioi Nord mountain is in the background, at left.

Photo Details: Canon 5D Mark III camera; 70/300 at 135. Sky – ISO from 400-1000 and exposure from 0.8-3.0 seconds (to enhance the lunar corona and capture the details of Jupiter and Saturn). Landscape – ISO from 320-400 and exposure from 5-114 seconds.
