Seen above is the megalithic necropolis of Pantalica in the province of Syracuse, Italy. These cemeteries contain over 5,000 tombs and were in use between the 13th and 7th century BC in the late Bronze Age. In 2005, this site was awarded, together with the city of Syracuse, the title of World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its special historical, archaeological, speleological and landscape profiles. Mount Etna (also known as Mongibello) is steaming in the background.
