These eye-catching cirrus clouds were captured at sunset over Paris, France. To me, they resemble a wedding veil or maybe angel wings. Forming at altitudes above about 20,000 ft (6,096 m), they’re high enough to capture the setting Sun’s lingering rays. The small amounts of water vapor ascending in the air at these heights are readily squeezed out, not as water droplets but rather as tiny ice crystals. Temperatures where cirrus clouds take shape are typically -35 F (-37 C) or colder. Photo taken on November 21, 2020.
