Featured above is the springtime explosion of Llano del Jable (La Palma, Canary Islands of Spain), as observed at an altitude over 3,900 ft (1,188 m). The valley area here is dominated by pine trees, but in early spring the flowering of a diminutive plant, known as Pico de Graja (no more than 1 ½ inches or 4 cm in height), covers the entire ground like a red carpet.
This nightscape is illuminated by the crescent Moon. Unfocused in the nighttime sky is the constellation of Canis Major. Photo taken on March 20, 2021.
