The photo above showing star trails above the “Statue of Mother” was taken during the summer of 2020, on the island of Aegina, Greece. Polaris is the star at the center of the concentric circles. This 13 ft (4 m) tall bronze statue was sculpted by Christos Karpalou and represents a mother patiently awaiting the safe return of her son from abroad. A similar but much smaller copy of the statue can be found at the island's cemetery, overlooking the grave of the sculptor's mother. Note that my car's floor mats were used to cover the flood light facing the base of the statue. Click here to learn more about the details of this image.
