Featured in the photos above are the stunning rock and forest landscapes of the Yosemite National Park in California. In early September 2021, I hiked to Eagle Peak via Upper Yosemite Falls Trail, which is a 6-mile (10 km) trek that ascends 3,500 ft (1067 m) in elevation. This route features beautiful views of the Yosemite Valley and Half Dome. I set out at 3 am, as the high temperatures for each day had been over 100°F (38°C).
As I hiked through the forest to Eagle Peak, I saw a black bear cub, shown in the right picture. He was very curious about the camera as he watched me from a distance. I never spotted his mother, but I'm sure she saw me. Although it got to 104°F (40°C) that day, the trees, lichen, animals, and scenic views of Yosemite National Park made it worthwhile!
