The photo above shows a fisheye view of part of a fogbow, at right center, as observed from the tower at the Viterbo Airport in Italy. Also visible is an optical feature known as the heiligenschein, the bright patch at extreme right (at the antisolar point). The Sun appears to be at left but is actually nearly directly behind the camera. The variation in brightness between the Sun and the antisolar point results from the polarization of light by the tiny water drops that compose the fog.
