Featured above is a focus-stacked photomicromosaic of that decades old subject of genetic experiments -- the humble fruit fly or Drosophila. This common fly, found worldwide, is still used today as a laboratory species to help better understand developmental biology. At a magnification of x20, it was too big a subject to fit the field of view of my trinocular research microscope, so I needed to take, and assemble, a 12-frame mosaic.

Photo details: All images captured on a Canon 5D MkII DSLR camera. Each individual frame was focus-stacked.
