Añañuca Flower in the Atacama Desert

The photo above shows an ananuca flower growing beneath the starry skies of the Atacama Desert of Chile. Only after very infrequent desert rainfall events, perhaps only once every 5 years, will this flower emerge and briefly blossom – referred to here by locals as the desierto florido (flowering desert).  I was fortunately enough to be at the right spot and at the right time to record it with my camera. Photo taken at 09:00 p.m. local time on September 25, 2022.
