Aracar volcano in the Andes Mountains, in the Argentine province of Salta, stands at a height of 19,997 ft (6,095 m) above sea level. This striking stratovolcano dates from the Pliocene era. Its reflection can be seen in one of the Ojos de Mar, which are small lagoons inhabited by extremophile organisms. A number of other organisms including ancient stromatolites have been found in these lagoons’ salty and alkaline waters. Photo taken on February 17, 2023.
