During May and early June in the subalpine zone of La Palma in the Canary Islands, the eye-catching Tajinastes plant (Echium perezii) comes into bloom. Confined to elevations between about 4,200 ft and 6,500 ft (1,280 m and 1,981 m), Tajinastes are biennial, flowering in their second year and then dying. Photo taken near El Roque de Los Muchachos (Garafia) on May 5, 2023.
