Anemone coronaria (windflower), is a species of flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae, native to the Mediterranean region. Vast red carpets of anemones (top photo) have become a major tourist attraction of the northern Negev region of Israel in recent years. It seems that admirers of these anemones often miss the beauty of the various parts that make up the overall plant. Visiting these fields with my camera in-hand and keeping an open mind allowed me to observe the details of their hidden beauty. Each composite fruit contains hundreds of seeds that bear fluffy hairs which aid their dispersal by the wind (bottom photo). Click here to see a video of these lovely wildflowers.
