Shown above are a pair of curiously oriented Til trees (Ocotea foetens) consumed in fog in Madeira’s Fanal Forest. Here, some specimens of these deciduous evergreens date back to a time before the discovery and habitation of Macaronesia. They’re part of the ancient Laurissilva Forest, which is endemic to Madeira and the Canary Islands. Photo taken on June 14, 2023.
