Have you ever stopped to observe that magical moment when day turns into night? It's something that happens almost unconsciously. The sky turns dark blue and then suddenly darkens until nightfall occurs, illustrated here by capturing light and color at 16 consecutive moments at the end of day and beginning of night in Sicily, Italy. Every shot was developed with the same white balance and average exposure obtained in aperture priority mode.
But this photograph is something more: It’s a spiral star-trail where the planet Venus and the waxing crescent Moon rotate until they appear to touch the rocks of Argimusco (Sicilian Stonehenge) creating the shape of a star flower. Photos taken on May 22, 2023
Argimusco, Sicily, Italy Coordinates: 37.9888, 15.0407
