Sunrise at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley, California was even more special on my visit here this past spring, as there happened to be a one-day break in between California’s mega rain/snowstorms. Dozens of people gathered here with cameras in hand, donning coats and beanie caps but still shivering, just to get a glimpse of the rising Sun. Zabriskie Point is within the Amargosa Range and is made of lake sediment from Furnace Creek Lake, a long-forgotten lake that dried up some 5 million years ago.
After the sunrise performance, I headed down the Badlands Loop Trail where I hiked almost 8 miles (13 km), going from Zabriskie Point to Red Cathedral to Golden Canyon, to Gower Gulch and back to the start. It was an awesome but very tiring hike since I had to trudge through sand and loose rocks for several hours. Photo taken on March 22, 2023.
