Featured above is a cross-section of a lily ovary from a prepared slide. I used a trinocular microscope at a magnification of x50 to capture this image, a hugely reduced 31-frame mosaic. It shows the interior cellular structure of the female reproductive part of a lily flower -- characteristic structures include the placenta, ovule, and locule. Micromorphological and anatomical investigations help reveal unique properties of the structures, in this case ovaries, in a particular species.
Photo details: L3000BHTG research trinocular microscope. Photo taken using a Canon 5D MkII DSLR - the mosaic was assembled using Photoshop's "Photomerge" function.
