July 25, 2023, was one of the hottest days ever recorded in the history of Sicily, certainly the hottest I remember. This photo shows the first quarter Moon setting over one of the hundreds (over 600) of wildfires that devastated the island. It’s believed that nearly all had natural causes. At least 3 deaths were attributed to these fires. Photo taken on July 25, 2023, at approximately 22:40 local time.
