During a hiking trip to Austria this past summer I was impressed with the rocks I often observed on the Wiedersberger Horn, which rises from the Alpbachtal Valley. The rock shown above is a type of schist, a foliated metamorphic rock made up of plate-shaped mineral grains.  Schist and quartzite as well are both widely seen in this scenic area of Austria.
